Nearly all motor vehicle regulations are codified in state law.
Such as safety,, minimum equiment, functioning brakes, lights, weight limits per axle and on and on.
State law is/can be enforced by any variety of law enforcement officer.
From d.o.t. To game warden an vice versa.
Do they enforce outside of their "specialty" ???
