With a Banks turbo, it must be an IDI diesel. The 7.3 IDI came out in 1988, this truck would have a 6.9L unless swapped out. The 6.9 was a good engine but had a few flaws (glow plug system, heads/gaskets), The Banks turbo was the most popular add-on turbo system for the IDI. For their time they had decent power but not 460 gasser power. The turbo helped a little but not a lot, they were still turds back then and definitely are by today's standards.
There were basically 3 versions of the IDI. 6.9L, 7.3L n/a, & 7.3 turbo. The 7.3 turbo was only in 1993,1994. The turbo engine looked identical to the n/a 7.3 but is had various internal upgrades, along with different injectors and injector pump.
