Connect a timing light to the coil wire take the cap off and point it at the rotor, have a helper crank the engine see what position the rotor tip in in when it is firing. Likely between the cap towers as wore out said. If no timing light with the cap off hold or position the coil wire close to the rim of the distributor, have a helper crank the engine. Eyeball the rotor tip location when it fires.
