If it is hot and dry in your area, put out some regular Coke out it some bowls or dishes. The rats will drink it and die. You have to dump it out and refresh it every couple of days. This way is safer if you have other pets running around. I have rats get in my feed shed sometimes. The cats and my hog dogs keep them down in numbers though.
