What we need to add to a herbicide to make it more effective is an additive that breaks the surface tension of the water and herbicide mix. Adding a surfactant allows the herbicide to enter the pores of the plant easier. Dishwashing soap works OK as a surfactant in a small hand pump sprayer filled with herbicide. The PH of the water is important, we add ammonium sulphate to the water to neutralize it. Vinegar might lower the PH to a level that will make the herbicide less effective.
