Pump lever should always be engaged, last 825 I was around the levers on the remote valve bodies were just used to help keep oil form leaking out. Each remote line had a ball valve/lever near the coupler. No oil flows unless a hose is connected and the lever must be inline (not crosswise) for the remote to work.
The two levers that run your loader are the ones that run the remotes, to as long as those are connected, hooking a cylinder to the remote isn't going to work unless you can isolate the loader cylinder (oil will flow and power cylinder that is easiest, i.e. loader will lower instead of remote implement raising)
