Some of you may remember the Montana/Farmtrac tractor I build last fall using a Ford 3930 engine along with Ford hydraulic and power steering pumps
It has proved to be a great little haying tractor and has been part of out haying operation this year
Well Friday after only 47 hours of use the new water pump we had installed during the build failed. The 3930 engine had been setting in the shop for 6-7 years and the tractors engine had been disassembled for 4 years so I didn't trust either of those water pumps and decided to go with a new aftermarket
Due to a ongoing project taking up my small one bay shop I'm outside in the sun with 89 degree temp and 67% humidity sweeting my behind off
But we'll get it going after a bit of lunch and a dry shirt, still have 600+ rolls in the fields to load haul out

I have been told a diesel holds up better than a gasoline engine as far a wear, tear, neglect and abuse. Since I am looking at older tractors that have probably been through it all, is it better to buy diesel? I do expect to have to do a good bit of work on
