I set a record yesterday that I don't care to ever try or have to repeat. I told a guy at the tractor club meeting Wednesday evening that there was no way I could rake 35 acres and bale it yesterday. I was wrong. The chance of rain jumped from 40% to 80% so I was motivated. There wasn't much dew, so I started raking at 8:30 and was baling by noon. I took half an hour off for supper and to load up with twine and got done at 7:15. 225 4x5 twine wrapped bales with that 24 year old Gehl baler that some people say you can't start a bale with. No miss starts at all. By 7 o'clock the fatigue was getting pretty serious, but I survived.
For a while there I thought it was all for nothing, but the rain finally rolled in. 0.45 inch. Better than a poke in the eye with a stick. Definitely would have hurt the hay if I hadn't got done.

In my younger days, mom, dad and my brother made frequent visits to dad's youngest brother Pete, who took over the home farm from grandpa MIke. It was the typical set-up, milk cows, pigs & chickens.
