I charge $100 an hour or $2.50 a mile with semi and 34 bales. I also charge less and different with pickup. Cost of fuel X 2 plus $15-20 an hour for my time. Seems to work out ok for me. some people think they want it hauled for free but registration and insurance and wear and tear on my equipment has to be figured in. My truck doesn't drive more than 20 thousand miles a year and most miles are gravel and fields so I like to make a little money and not do everything for free or at cost.
If I haul 1 load or all day makes a difference as well. For me to take time to run for 1 load basically takes up most of the day. if he wanted 3 I could still do it in 1 day. sometimes I knock off $1-200 if I run for the same guy 2 days in a row.
