The problem with cutting relief's into the arms to increase travel is you are defeating the designed cylinder protection stops.
If the cylinder becomes the new travel limiter all it will take is a small bump into something with the grapple in the down position to completely destroy the cylinder, there is some serious leverage there.
I still have the remains of a couple of cylinders from one that someone with good welding skills but poor geometry comprehension brought to a consignment auction.
