I was pricing a 50x100 last fall. Local place that makes steel siding and roofing said that it was cheaper at the time to use wood outer sidewalls on 16" centers and wood rafters that try to go to steel framed posts and rafters. I see a place now putting up a steel frame building and using the metal studs (16" centers) for the outer walls. Steel studs are required for commercial. Was also told not to waste the money for 6" roll insulation since it compresses so much that it is ineffective compared to the standard 3".
What I don't know is how the structural strength of each stud (wood or steel) would compare.
