I usually post this on the Oliver page, but maybe someone else has ran into this problem and can help. I'm replacing the telescoping steering shaft on my 1550, The old one was left extended and is rusted beyond use. It still has the Saginaw steering unit in it. I got another used column and when I put it on, it will not retract far enough for all of the telescoping shaft to go inside the outer tube. The end that goes on the splines is tapered and wont let the rod go all of the way in, leaving about 3 of the shaft exposed. I'm guessing that this column is made for a different model and won't work on my unit. Anyone ever run into this?? The old one is the rusty one, the replacement is the shiny one. It is pushed in as far as it will go Notice the taper on the replacement, it stops the shaft from going into the tube any farther, leaving part of the inner shaft exposed. This pin hold the rusty shaft in place, there is no opening on the other side to drive it out, I think it is rusted in and will never come out to get the shaft out to try to clean it up to reuse. Even if I could get the pin out to remove the shaft, I doubt that it would clean up good enough to reuse. Is my only option to try to find another telescoping shaft that matches to rusty one??
