You probably dont want to hear this, but you should remove the pump and overhaul it. Not knowing the sound its making, you are correct that it could be the cam striking the cam follower. This would be due to a broken piston spring, not holding the follower against the cam. Although the pump seems to be working well, this is a condition that can cause the pump to fail down the road, or tomorrow. This pump controls itself through a series of orifices and spool valves. If the wrong orifice becomes plugged, the pump cant unload and dangerously high pressure will result. This can happen if that spring continues to break up and circulate pieces through the system. On the bright side, it could continue to function as it is right now for the rest of our lives, but consider this: if our guess is correct, the pump is only running at 3/4 capacity right now, because one piston is not making a full stroke. So there is more hydraulic speed to be had for the cost of a handful of reasonably priced parts and one afternoon.
