RRL ..... I remember 1981 well, we were getting 18% on our payroll purchases (optional) of Canada Savings Bonds up here. I forget how many years at that rate it took to double the value but it wasn't all that many, maybe seven or something like that. In July of that year, our mortgage was coming up for renewal at about that same rate. We were ten years into a 30-year mortgage at the time and only owed $10,000 on it so we were able to pay it off. Still living in the same house which cost us $22,000 in 1971. Sounds too good to be true but at the time, things seemed pretty tight financially.
