Would be easier to just add a piece of tubing under the frame and reuse the current axle. A rear axle will have the hump for the gears in the way. If you were to add an air compressor to the tractor with a tank and valve you could have air brakes that would stop the tractor in it's tracks on the old semi trailer. If that is not at least 40 foot long and they are smaller bales like the 3x3's or 3x4's you will not get 30 on there. I used to haul 4x4x8's some and could not get more than 24 on a 48 foot step deck trailer. 6 on the top deck and 18 on the bottom. 2 were cross ways then 4 long and all 2 high and 2 wide. Then 2 more cross ways on the top deck with 4 length ways in front of those so 2 high and 2 wide Full trailer and would be over weight to haul so would have to take a couple off.
