How matched or mismatched to the generator can a voltage regulator be? I just pulled the trigger a NOS Autolite 6V regulator for a 1950-1953 Chrysler on Ebay. It claims to be 47 amps. The old regulator I am working with is 35-45 amps. Polarity is not shown on the Ebay regulator. A picture showed 6v stamped on the base but no polarity. The mounting holes appear to be the same on the Ebay one as the holes on the one I am working with but again that doesn't mean this is a match. The price was right.
