Paul, the disk plow was to leave some residue on top for soil protection,They wouldn't work in wet soils at all, as a kid, there was a guy in our community that,had one, a 4 or 5 disk's on it,it went deep and was really heavy,but as it turned the soil it lifted it and kinda dropped it,made it really rough,he used it, to start out the stubble field for summer fallow,then he dug it all summer at a angle to smoothe it down, The really bad thing is you have to go around and around and left a dead furrow in the center of the field,year after year, a ishy way to farm in my opinion !!
