Which model Lincoln 250? You are using 6011 rods, are you using AC or DC? Welding machines have a duty cycle rating, so many amps output for so many minutes out of 10, which allows some cooling time. Constantly exceeding the duty cycle will shorten the life. If you are welding steady for long durations you may need a heavier/higher duty cycle machine. Is your power supply correct? Small or long extension cords, if used, can reduce input voltage. As for used machines, those are a gamble to begin with in my opinion. You don't know how the previous owner(s) treated them. I will say I think a lot of the old machines are built heavier than new ones. I have an old Westinghouse AC machine I have welded with for years using about every type rod from 6010 to 90 series and used Chamfertrode as well and it keeps going. JMHO
