Good story, in my last half dozen years of teaching I was required (because of a variety of staffing issues) to add wood shop to my teaching duties. I went in pretty green but sort of guessed that most kids these days would never have had a hand saw in their hands, nor even experience with a hammer and nails. What did surprise me though was a broom and a dustpan were new to them as well. Not their fault of course, I never knew (nor do I still know) how to shoe a horse. Nobody ever showed me how.
