I just did that job a couple of months ago. Friend of mine had a good used gas tank and needed it for his 841 diesel. I made a simple brass bushing and soldered it on the bottom of his tank. After I soldered it I drilled through the tank itself. You could also just buy a brass fitting and cut about 1/4" of it off to use as the bushing. It was pretty easy to do.
