There is no doubt that a pick-up truck needs additional weight in the rear in order to go in snow, but it is also good to be able to go in the direction that you want. Weight that is too far back will very suddenly cause your rears to break traction sideways which makes control a challenge. The best idea is to secure it so that the center of the mass is 2/3 of the way back and that it will stay put.
