Mike, Yes, the front of the mower needs to be lower than the back, the blade cuts the grass once and it's gone the back of the blade coast over the cut area. With the back lower the front cuts once then tries to recut as the blade passes, a lot of drag on the blade. Belts need to be good and tight. I had a problem with cloging on my 18 HP Sears tractor until I painted the underside of the mower deck with the graphite coating they use on grain bins and silage chutes. It solved the problem. I also use it on snow plow blades with good results. Hope this helps. Dick
