I, too, use golf balls for shifter knobs. I had TH350 transmission ratchet shifter ( mega something) that had a crappy plastic tee handle that broke soon after install.

I installed the golf ball, but had to drill a horizontal roll pin to keep it inplace, lock-tite did not work for me.

That is a neat, cheap, durablefix.
