I built this stand a couple years back. I basically copied the commercial built 6000 lb stands. I needed to hang this John Deere 6 cyl on it. I've done a 6.5 diesel with it since, and currently have a 4 cyl Perkins on it.
I'd assume your 5.9 would be similar to that deere engine, HEAVY... The worst part is rotating them on a small stand like that. There's just no way to balance them. The deere actually mounted on the side of the block, which was kind of slick. No mount in the way of installing the rear main seal.
I had most all of the material laying around, so I really only had about $100 and my time in building it.
