The valves in the other cylinders are stuck open. (likely) if any are stuck shut, the pushrods will likely be bent on those. Before pulling the head use your favorite penetrating spray into the area under the retainer onto the valve guide/stem. let it sit for a day or two, then use a plastic faced hammer to tap gently on the top of the retainer. the intent is to get them to move downward just a tiny bit. if they move a tiny bit, use some more spray, and pry upwards on the spring gently from 2 sides and do more tapping. This usually gets lightly rusted valves free. I have rescued many this way. do not get impatient. If you got it started it is not likely to be impossible to fix from the outside. Jim
