Your correct you are not mistaken and I reckon those other fellas never broke a tap, I on the other hand have broken numerous taps from 2-56 up to 3/8-16 with ease I think I remember a 1/2-13 once but not with ease that took some doing LOL, And I am sure for many different reasons. I have even broken End Mills, may have even broken a drill bit or 2. A lot happens in 50 yrs as a toolmaker/ Machinist / Machine assembly Technician and service Tech./ Mechanical Engineer. BTW tap extractors came in real handy many times and now that I am retired I still have a large assortment of tap extractors just in case.
