It does make you wonder what these folks were doing to break that tap. I assume they were only chasing out the treads, but who knows they may have been cutting new ones due to stripped out old threads. Anyways, its only cast material, some cutting oil and finness shouldn't have broke it. Or I suppose they may have not drilled out the hole to the proper size. That, I do not miss about my old job- we primarily used stainless steel for everything... tapping stainless is a whole new ball game, especially when it's a small size like 4-40 into a blind hole.
