Only articulated JD tractor I ever sold new while employed at JD dealership was 8440's. These three 8440's started fine with no problems. Those tractors had 6076(466 cid) similar to my JD 4255 which has started easily since I purchased it in '93
I wonder why the 8440's in your area were difficult to start? The 8440 had hyd aneroid on inj pump not that tricky mechanical amberoid linkage similar to 4430.
