I used a Letz burr mill on the farm to grind ear corn for cattle feed.. The mill has two burr plates, one stationary and one turns.. Can adjust together to grind fine or course.. For cattle I would set to grind up cobs and just crack the corn kernels.. Hammer mills, as a John Deere or Montgomery Ward uses swinging steel bars to beat grain and material through a screen that can have different hole sizes.. Screen with small holes, grinds fine and screen with large holes grinds course... There could be as many as ten different screens with different hole sizes........
