When you get it out check, to see if the seal is damaged or any of the seal is still stuck to the housing. There should be an inner/safety filter mounted inside that one. It should not get damaged in removing the outer filter. When you get the outer filter out, remove and check the inner one over closely. Those are normally ok to reuse, if the outer one hasn't failed, or it is breaking up from age.
It is yours to do what you wish, but when I enlarged your picture from what I could see of the part number and checking the parts book you should be able to get a filter at a parts store for $30.00 +/-. I also see appears to be a date of May87. Personally I would not clean and reuse that old filter, especially as hard as it is coming out.
