I think I've mentioned before, I was on the Sara in the fall of '56 for carrier quals when the ship herself was brand new and still in shakedown.
I may have been one of the first patients in the ship's hospital ward. We were in the middle of flight ops one day. I had the flu and was running a temp. I went to sick bay intending to get doped up so I could go back to work, and the doctor put me in the hospital ward for several days.
Also, if I recall right, out in the Atlantic one of the screw shafts twisted off from some defect and we finished what we were doing on three screws. Guess that's why there's a shakedown period.
