That reminds me of my dad's exciting happening when I was a kid. Because of poor wells, in the depth of winter when everything froze up, he'd take the 300 gallon gas tank down and put it on the Speedwagon truck and head to the river. He would chop a hole in the ice with his axe and then use a gas engine-powered pump to fill it. One year, after filling it once, he went back for another load. This time the tank valve was frozen open. So he fired up the blow torch to thaw it out. Boom!. The lid blew off, and the tank ends turned spherical. He wasn't hurt. (But...) For years afterwards we had a 330 gallon gas tank. Never leaked.
