I've done brazing with plain MAPP gas in a propane torch setup. You can braze small pieces with no problem (1/4" thick or so).

You can't get enough heat to braze an engine block or something really large because it'll draw the heat out faster than the otrch can deliver it.

One trick that helps, get a helper with a second propane or MAPP gas torch to help heat the area. This sounds goofy but it really works for those of us without an OxyAcetylene rig.
