I built this across the front of my dam years ago to keep anyone from driving into the pond or sliding down the front while fishing. These are black locust posts about 6 inches in diameter put deep in the dam and round black locust poles about 8 feet long between then. All were cut within site of the pond. I drilled through the posts and put 1/2 inch rebar 18 inches long through the posts and drilled the ends of the rails to slide on the rebar. Had to start at one side and put it up as I went across the dam. Very strong. And it will be standing long after I am dead.
