Johnson grass; if not stressed; is very good for livestock and they will readily eat it. But if it is stressed from drought or worse yet a non killing frost it becomes very deadly to most all livestock. It will even kill a goat and they can eat just about anything.
Cutting will never get rid of Johnson grass because it comes back from the rhizome; no seeds needed. The only way to get rid of it is to graze it and graze it hard. Basically over graze it hard. A full summer of no leaves will kill the rhizome from lack of nutrition.
