Looks like you are doing a good job.I doubt an air gap at the bottom will do much good, just between the bricks and the wall. 1980 I did mine all wrong. I have sheet rock. A brick wall with solid cement between the wall and the bricks. no air gap. I thought how can the wall behind my stove get hot enough. It would need to heat the bricks 3/4 inch of concrete, and 1/2 inch of drywall to get to the wood. Maybe it happens? I put a sheet of stainless steel next to the wall just to be sure. Stan
