After market starters were available through Sears, Wards and probably some other sources. My neighbor had a late F20 that had a starter. We used that tractor to spray corn at lay by time. I drove it at that time but that was 50 years ago. That F20 is still in a shed a few miles away and a few years ago I looked at it to see what kind of a starter arrangement it had. The starter was bolted to the front of the bell housing tucked up under the left frame rail so there must be a ring gear on the flywheel. I might end up owning that tractor some day if I can sneak it past Marilyn.
