Probably works the same as a Ford car of that era. There is a resistor in line with the hot wire to the coil, reduces the voltage to around 3.5 volts to the coil. That is necessary if you are using a 6 volt FORD coil. You can use an aftermarket conventional type 6 volt coil and eliminate the resistor. How ever if the coil is the type that is special and mounts to the top of the distributor, it is the FORD coil. An adaptor can be made , or maybe purchased that can be mounted to the distributor where the coil mounts and a conventional 6 volt coil can be used. the resistor can be purchased at one of the V8 ford supply outfits, like Mac's, Bob Drake , Etc. good luck.
