Somehow at this stage of the game, I don't think your mommy would have much better luck tying your shoes than you are, and if you call your wife mommy, you're likely to get clobbered upside the head with a cast iron pan.
So, I think you're on your own in tying your shoes, or finding alternatives.
Most of the guys I know who have had knee replacements claim it's like night and day. They hurt less immediately after the operation than they did before, even without painkillers.
