I live in southern Middle Tennessee about 40 miles south of Nashville. Last week I square baled a little patch of second cut hay. I cut it one day, tedded it the second day, and baled it the third day. It was hotter than Hades all three days. The grass felt plenty dry enough and had very little green to it when I baled it, but the bales were still outrageously heavy. I only got 48 bales out the little patch and was really glad I only had 48 because I was spent after baling, picking up, and stacking those few bales in the barn.
I don't know if the grass was too wet (it didn't feel or look like it was) or if the bales were just extra compacted by the shorter grass from the second cut. In any event, I have about 12 more acres to cut if it ever stops raining. I don't want to shorten the bales, but I might remove some the tension in the baler and see if that makes them lighter than these last few.
This has been a really wet year in Middle Tennessee.

The front end center pin bushing was worn also so I ask that they replace it if they had time. Well, that’s wha
