The 7040SU was not available with the 6X2.
I have an M9960 ROPS with the 6X2. It replaced a late model MF model with 4X2 which required stopping to change ranges too often.
I have always bought ROPS tractors due to the need to drive around and beneath trees while mowing. Sadly, the 24 speed power-shift option is not available on ROPS models or I would have spent the additional money to buy it. If doing it again, I would have bought the HDC24 version and kept it away from the trees. Since I bought my BW, I don't take the 9960 near trees anymore.
