Jim welcome to YT! Unless your new step pistons have a substantial dish portion opposite of the step that would be lower than the top of the cylinder deck ...flat surface head gasket sets on...when the piston is at top dead center they will raise the compression ratio. I will link a video by Hot Rod magazine staffer Dave Freiburger, who was at one point lead editor of the magazine, explaining compression ratio. If you dot have time to devote 13 some minutes to this watch it up to 3 minutes then skip to 6 and watch about another minute. It should cover any questions you have on the topic. I sure hope that any one in the US that is about to change the pistons in an engine knows about Hot Rod. If not I have lost part of my faith in humanity.
