Very hot and windy today.This has dried out the surface of just planted fields and the wind has picked up the soil resulting in localized dust storms. An old glacial beach runs through the township and this soil is very sandy and blows quite easily. At times, visibility was a few hundred yards or less in these streamers. Tons of soil is lost in these areas where conventional tillage has buried all the residue. The no til soil held it's own for the most part. This evening we got a 2 inch downpour in just over an hour, and more of this fragile soil was lost. There will be a few bare spots by fall.
