The injection pump has it's own vane pump, it doesn't need a supply pump, but a 5-10 PSI pump would not hurt. I suspect there's something in the tank causing trouble, your injection pump has no flex ring inside to fail and plug the return side like older DB,DC, JDB, and JDC pumps have. Several AC, IH, Oliver, and White diesels work fine with no supply pump feeding the injection pump, and they use much more fuel per hour than yours does. Also, If it dies again after running fine awhile, listen closely while loosening the fuel cap. If you here a sudden rush of air in, the tank vent may be the problem. No air in will eventually slow/stop fuel flow out..
