You may be able to resolve a couple of problems at the same time by relocating that fuel pump to a better location. Trouble starting when hot could be caused by the carburetor getting overheated, in which case you need to provide space and cooling air around it. If it is the fuel pump getting hot, relocation would help that and make future replacement easier. All you would need is a longer electrical wire and fuel line.
