A couple years ago I was where you seem to be. My wife didn't like the iPhone with it's super sensitive touch something anywhere. So, I looked at Jitterbug at Best Buy. Sales person said they had similar phones - lots cheaper - do the same thing. I bought in. Then had to select a "phone company" to provide service- I picked one. Wife wanted to have the old phone number from our black phone days. We transferred it to our "new" phone service.
In a few months it was obvious that nobody was calling on our obsolete number, and wifey wasn't using the Jitterbug look-alike. So, I cancelled the phone company service. What I didn't know was that I gave up our "rights" to that number when I signed up with them. So, if grandma wants to keep her old number - be careful of this issue - when signing up.
