I had potatoes from last year that had sprouted and had sprouts 6-10 inches long. Couple of weeks ago I sprouted them (removed all the sprouts) and left them. Yesterday I got them out and they had restarted sprouting except now they were only maybe at most a 1/2 long. I've never planted potatoes with real long sprouts but probably would work. I use an old potato planter and long sprouts get caught in the gears, etc. I think if you plant the real long ones its important not to break them off. During the winter that puts the potatoes back to sleep for a while and already planted they may rot before growing again depending the on the growing conditions.
