Years ago, my Dad ran the family car out of gas on a Sunday in a desolate area, he walked both ways on the road some distance and couldn't find anyone. The house trailer we were pulling had a kerosene furnace and there was about 5 gallons of kerosene in the tank. He made a funnel and dumped the kerosene into the car tank. The car started and ran, pulled the trailer to the next gas station filled it up with high test and went on our way.
The car was a 1955 Buick Special with a small V-8 and an automatic transmission, the house trailer was an 8' x 32' and fairly heavy, the car smoked a good bit, but we made it. There did not seem to be any long term detrimental effect on the car.
