In 1978, I looked at a piece of property in New York state in Onondaga county, town of Manlius. It was a small starter type of house. One bedroom, small living room, kitchen, and bathroom. It was on an acre of land. The asking price was $26,000, which was maybe just a bit high for the time. I was ready to make a written offer when I looked over the tax information. Annual property taxes were about $5,600 per year.
I figured that even once I paid it off, it would cost me over $100 per week in taxes alone to live there. Yikes! I left it alone.
