How about some real numbers? What percent of your market value is your annual property and school tax bill?
Here in northern Michigan, my three places. Home #1 with homestead exemption: Total taxes are 1.2% of the total market value. Home #2 with NO homestead exemption: Total taxes are 2.4% of the total market value. Home #3 in the UP with no homestead: Total taxes are 1.8% of the total market value.
My friend in Punta Gorda, Florida. Total tax is 1.1% of the market value My friend in Glen Rock, New Jersey. Total tax is 3% of the market value.
Just saying "taxes are high" does not say much. How much is your property worth? What exemptions are you allowed? Homestead, senior citizen, veteran, etc.
